CNN PRODUCER NOTE A game of 'Petanque' enlivened proceedings in these pictures of a New York City based celebration of France's Bastille Day taken by RVCFOTO on Sunday. "We have a lot of French people living in New York City and it is their way to celebrate their holiday away from home," she says. "That is why I love this city so much. I am able to experience so many different cultures so close to home."

North America’s largest tournament of about 70 teams competed with players from around the world. Half of Smith Street was covered with sand for the players.
Petanque is played with hollow steel balls “boules”. They throw their “boules” as close as possible to the small target ball called a pig “cochonnet”. At the end the the balls are measured to see who came the closes to the pig.
French bistro Bar Tabac was the main restaurant sponsor this year. There was even a very old looking guillotine on display.
The steaming weather did not deter the crowd to come and watch the game as well as enjoy the food and drinks. Bon Appetit!
