"Mermaid body found" buzz from the Animal Planet documentary Sunday is stirring a mix of responses from startled viewers. The footage from the mermaid documentary has many believing the fabled maidens really exist deep in ocean waters.
"Mermaids: The Body Found" aired another round of the highly-talked about Discovery documentary that investigated the long-held myth of half-women-half-fish creatures, citing a 9News story on Monday.
Watch: "Body found on beach"
The mermaid program was so popular, about 2 million viewers tuned in, making it the most watched special since 2006, when Steve Irwin's memorial special took the lead.
The Animal Planet documentary used computer-generated imagery (or CGI) to recreate what a real mermaid would look like, should they exist.
The "Mermaid body found" documentary included a scene in which one of the mythological creatures gives birth. Imagine that!
The first time Discovery and Animal Planet ran the documentary, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) released a statement about mermaids.
It warned the public that no evidence of aquatic humanoids has ever been found.
However, "Mermaids: The Body Found" has many believing the aquatic creatures are real, based on AP's message boards. Imagine that?
