2012 Olympic medal count standings after fifteenth full day of occasions - Examiner.com

The next to last day of medal events at the 2012 Olympics in London is now over, and all that remains is the action on Sunday. There were plenty of medals to hand out on Saturday, August 11, 2012 though including plenty of gold. The United States now has a commanding lead heading into the final day of the London Olympics as they lead China in the overall medal count 102-87.

One of the most anticipated medals awarded on Saturday was one that so many had been looking forward to, and it was in the women's basketball gold medal game. The United States women came out sluggish and slow at first, but ended up pulling things together and defeating France 86-50.

The other huge gold medal awarded on Saturday went to the men's soccer team of Mexicho who shocked the world by defeating the favored Brazil team 2-1. Oribe Peralta of Mexico scored the quickest goal ever in an Olympic final by scoring in a mere 29 seconds.

Gold medals were handed out on Saturday in the sports of: basketball, boxing, canoeing, cycling, diving, field hockey, handball, modern pentathlon, rhythmic gymnastics, sailing, soccer, taekwondo, track & field, volleyball, and wrestling.

After 15 full days of Olympic competition, there have now been 918 total medals given out in all to 83 different countries. The medal count stands as follows: 286 Gold, 288 Silver, and 344 Bronze.

NOTE: All times are Eastern Standard Time.

NBC and its affiliate networks pretty much have the monopoly on all of the 2012 Olympics action. Any events not designated as "live" by NBC are assumed to air on tape delay.

For prime time coverage, NBC has already announced that there will be no "live" events airing and everything will be taped. The network also plans on announcing no spoilers for those that simply wish to watch the Olympic action as it happens. Well, at least as best they can.
